The 720S is the most serious car we rent. A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 710 bhp in a carbon-fibre tub weighing well under 1,500 kg puts it in genuinely different territory to everything else in the fleet — 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and a chassis engineered by a company that builds Formula 1 cars for a living.
It is also, unexpectedly, the most usable supercar here. McLaren's hydraulic suspension gives it a ride quality that shames cars costing far less, the visibility out of that teardrop cabin is better than any rival, and the dihedral doors open upward into a space narrower than a conventional door needs. In a tight KL car park that is a practical advantage, not just theatre.
Who books it. Content creators and photographers, birthdays where the car is the centrepiece, and experienced drivers who have already had the Urus and the Huracán and want the next thing. It is the single most-photographed car we own after the Cullinan.
Be realistic about the city. This is a low, wide, very fast car in a city with speed bumps, drainage lips and unpredictable rain. It has a nose lift for ramps and we will walk you through where to use it. If you want a supercar you can drive without thinking, that is the Urus. The 720S rewards attention.
