Tourist car rental Kuala Lumpur — luxury car on a Malaysian highway

Renting a car as a foreign visitor in Malaysia is straightforward when you know the details. VELO LUXURY has arranged hundreds of rentals for GCC, European, and Asian visitors who land at KLIA or KLIA2 and want to explore KL and beyond on their own terms. We take care of the friction — licence checks, deposit pre-authorisation on your foreign card, a Touch 'n Go card for every toll road, and a brief on driving left before you pull away.

Delivery to KLIA and Your Hotel

Land at KLIA or KLIA2 and your car arrives with you. We also deliver across KL, Bukit Bintang, KLCC, and KL Sentral — no counter queues after a long flight.

Foreign Card, No Surprises

The security deposit is a pre-authorisation hold, not a charge. It releases after the car is returned and inspected — typically within a few business days of your card provider.

What to Carry Every Time You Drive

Malaysian police conduct routine licence checks at road blocks. Carrying the right documents means a brief pause rather than a complication.

  • Passport and entry stampyour proof of lawful presence in Malaysia, required at any road block.
  • Home driving licenceaccepted when in Roman script; carry it alongside your IDP regardless.
  • International Driving Permitrequired where your home licence is not in Roman script, and the safer default for all visitors.
  • Touch 'n Go cardfitted to every VELO car — clears toll barriers on the Federal Highway, ELITE, and PLUS without stopping.
  • Minimum age23–25 depending on the model; your date of birth is verified when we confirm the booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. A foreign licence in Roman script is generally accepted alongside your passport and entry stamp for short visits. If your home licence uses a non-Roman script — Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Thai — an International Driving Permit is required. The IDP is the safer default regardless of script, and we recommend carrying it with your home licence and passport whenever you drive in Malaysia.
The deposit is taken as a pre-authorisation hold on your card — it does not leave your account as a charge. Once the car is returned and inspected with no damage noted, the hold is released. Release timelines vary by bank but are typically two to five business days; some GCC-issued cards process faster. We confirm the exact amount on your model when you book over WhatsApp.
Every VELO car comes with a Touch 'n Go card mounted on the windscreen. It covers all barrier tolls automatically on highways like the Federal Highway, ELITE, and PLUS — no cash needed and no stopping at booths. The card balance is monitored by us; if it runs low on a longer trip such as Penang or Cameron Highlands, we top it up before delivery.
Malaysia drives on the left, with the steering wheel on the right — the same as the UK and Australia. Expressways are well-signed in English. Parking in KL is mostly in-mall barrier systems or roadside bays paid via the Setel or ParkEasy apps; we walk you through the apps when we deliver the car. Police occasionally conduct routine checks at road blocks: carry your passport, entry stamp, home licence, and IDP at all times.
All VELO cars require Ron 97 or Ron 95 high-octane petrol — never Ron 95 on the supercar models; the concierge confirms the correct grade per vehicle. Petronas and Shell stations are the most reliable and widespread; there is a 24-hour Petronas on Jalan Ampang near KLCC and a Shell off Jalan Imbi in Bukit Bintang. Fuel is among the most affordable in Southeast Asia at pump price.
Genting Highlands is roughly one hour north via the PLUS highway — a half-day return. Melaka is about two hours south on the ELITE Highway, ideal as a full day out. Cameron Highlands takes around three hours via the Karak Highway — plan an overnight. Penang is four to five hours north on the PLUS; the Penang Bridge itself is worth the journey in a grand tourer. All routes are toll-road highways and straightforward to navigate with standard map apps.
